DARLING TOWERS CAPE DUTCH FARMHOUSE

The new farmhouse at Darling Towers was completed in 2016 in the traditional Cape Dutch style that is so uniqe to South Africa.
THE CAPE DUTCH ARCHITECTURE STYLE
THE INTERIOR OF THE LIVING AREA
The roof trusses were left exposed and varnished creating a 1.5 volume space. The kitchen takes up the back-wall, painted charcoal for effect. The country influence is clear in the furniture and finishes selection.THE H-SHAPED HOUSE
IMPRESSIVE FROM ALL SIDES
The h-shape of traditional Cape Dutch houses is such an ideal shape that provides positive and negative spaces on all sides and opportunities for symmetry on the facade.
ENHANCING THE COUNTRYSIDE
Just as the original Cape Dutch houses of hold, the home enhances the countryside with the white walls contrasting with the fields, and proving a visual focal point for the spectacular scenery.
TWIN GABLES
The wings of the H shape provide an idea opportunity for elaboration of the gables... with emphasis added by theme mirror imaging one another.
A STOEP WHERE LIFE HAPPENS
Between the two gables on the backyard side of the house lies the ideal opportunity for a spacious stoep overlooking the barley fields and pirturesque town of Darling.

LIGHT AND AIRY
A RELAXING BATHROOM
The light colours and and large windows provide an airy and relaxing environment for unwinding in this elegant and understated bathroom.
NORMANDY FARMHOUSE
Also in the Cape Dutch style and designed by the same architect is the Normandy farmhouse in Franschhoek. The u-shaped house is twice as big as the Darling towers home.
THE GRAND ENTRANCE
The entrance to the farmhouse resembles something of a hotel porte cochere, complete with a central water fountain.
